Born July 22, 1980 in Australia, Scott Dixon is a motor racing driver of New Zealand, who has been IndyCar Champion three times, wining the championships in 2003, 2008, and 2013. He has also won the Indianapolis 500 race in 2008. Since he joined IndyCar he competes for Chip Ganassi Racing. Dixon has won many awards and honors, and the chief ones include the Bruce McLaren Trophy in 2003 and 2008, the Jim Clark Trophy in 1999, 2001, and 2004, being chosen Sportsman of the Year in New Zealand for 2008 and 2013, and appointed Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Dixon started as a race Kart driver when he was seven years old. By the time he was thirteen, he had managed to procure a competition license on special dispensation to race a saloon car. He competed at the Pukekohe Park Raceway, driving the Nissan Sentra, which he crashed. However, Dixon later won every series that he competed. In 1994, he won the Formula Vee championship in New Zealand and later won 13 races out of 14, of the Formula Ford Class 2 Series. In 1997, Dixon started racing in Australia and was third overall in the Formula Holden series. In 1999, Dixon came to the U.S. and joined the Indy Light team of Johansson Motorsports. He won the Chicago oval race, and in 2000, won the championship with seven podium finishes and six wins.

Dixon started his IndyCar Series career from 2003, when his team became part of the Indy Racing League. He began to perform well consistently, and from 2010 to 2012, he won 2-3 races and finished third in the championships. In July 2013, Pocono saw the return of IndyCar racing, and Dixon won the race, and went on to win the Honda Indy Toronto event as well.

Watchful eyes on the Indy 500 posted by Ray Hartjen

The 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 begins with the wave of the green flag on Sunday, and while this year’s race is looks on the surface to be a wide-open, competitive affair, there are, as usual, a few things to keep a keen eye on. Between drivers, teams, and new rules, there’s a little bit of something, from casual fans to the hardcore.

Double-file restarts
From the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” department might come one of the most bold – and baffling – rules changes in recent memory. Indy Car officials, in a bid to make the racing more exciting have instituted two-wide restarts coming out of yellow flag caution periods. So far this season, the result has been a bunch of twisted race cars.

This is for sure – restarts will be more exciting. They’ll likely be very expensive for car owners too. In NASCAR, a two-wide start is an entirely different beast, and a function of cars with fenders and an extra thousand pounds or so coming to grips with the bumping and grinding. For open wheel cars, it’s something else entirely. When cars come together at speed, there’s very, very little chance of both cars coming out unscathed; expect suspension and wing damage at the least. More likely, expect heavy contact with the Turn One wall. The last two years have seen terrifying accidents at the speedway as a result of wheels “tripping” over others. Let’s hope in the bid for excitement, IndyCar officials don’t have to face the effects of serious injuries like Vito Meira’s (2009) or Mike Conway (2010). Or, face up to worse.

The ongoing maturation of Danica Patrick takes a critical step, either forward or backward, this month, as the pressure cooker that is the Indianapolis 500 slowly plays its hand over the course of May.

Who can forget last year’s 500, where a pit road miscue by Ryan Briscoe prevented nothing more than a rather mediocre finish by Patrick. The race’s most dramatic moment, or, rather, moments, turned out to be those captured by ABC’s cameras as they focused on Patrick’s long walk down pit land, the end of which she was apparently ready to give Briscoe a piece of her mind, and perhaps the backside of her hand. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and she was stopped before she made a further spectacle of herself. Unfortunately, the media, with their cameras and microphones, quickly caught up with her. Nothing like a sound bite from a woman scorned.

Yes, difficult to forget that moment now. Oddly, most forgot about it at Watkins Glen later in the season, when Patrick herself had a pit road mishap. Of course, racing being racing and the ultimate sport of “stuff happens,” that wasn’t the first – we can still pull video on You Tube of Patrick’s pit road accident at Homestead a couple of years ago.

Regardless, last year’s drama queen bit aside, Patrick is at her absolute best in a race car when she’s at Indy; all the more remarkable considering the immense media and public scrutiny she endures over May (the entire year, for that matter). Through all of Patrick’s faults, she knows how to set up a car and get around Indy, and quickly and competitively at that.

Indy's Orientation and the IRL's Orange Pylons posted by Ray Hartjen

Not a big surprise to see rain hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today, the second day of the track being open in preparation for the Indianapolis 500. After all, what’s the month of May at Indy without a bit of rain? Forget about “and it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime.” As any race fan knows, the ultimate in sarcasm is “and it don’t rain in Indianapolis in May, as every open wheel racer in the United States is desperately preparing for the biggest single race on the calendar.” A bit unwieldy for a song lyric, but the truth nonetheless. This biggest bummer of the rain is not the fact that the cars can’t hit the track, rather it’s the continued delay in getting the Rookie Orientation program done and in the books. Enough of Rookie Orientation – let’s see the big boys come out and play. Weather permitting, Thursday afternoon we’ll see the veterans – and the IRL’s absolute best – run the oval for the first time all month. Rookie Orientation is a long-standing tradition at the Speedway. It was, and in many respects still is, a necessary evil. The Indy 500 is the sport’s biggest race, on its biggest track. Some orientation for newbies is needed. In April! Why the first couple of days of the month of May is devoted to the rookies, I don’t understand. The fans don’t want it, and the race teams don’t want it. Does it save a bit of budget for the teams? Maybe – and that’s a big maybe. Chargers Send the MVP home for the season.

Well, atleast now Manning can get his hair cut......Also NFL network there goes brother vs. brother Super Bowl. The Chargers actual took it to the Colts. A few mental and physical mistakes early made it an over time game. A Rivers interception in endzone stopped a great drive. The Drive befre was a turn over by the runningback on the two yard line. The Colts should of just taken the safety and get better field position on the Chargers with less then 2 minutes left. The Chargers deserved this game and must admit at half time I started to root for them. I hate to get a lose in playoffs but now I know what it is like to root for the underdog.

Well the Home team won the first two of the post season. Now the 3 point home dogs play tomorrow. Only can hope for a change of luck as I took the next two road favrites.

LT spent another playoff game on the sideline........Alot of money sitting on the bench if you ask me. I expect him to give it another go next week againts the Steelers or Titans. Bith with god D's could make his leg real sore real quick.

Breaking News! Danica Patrick caught speeding! Seriously. posted by Somsak Bounchareune

     IndyCar racer, Danica Patrick has a couple of speeding tickets.  How is this even a story?  The Associated Press reported that she paid for $196 fine for a recent ticket and that it is among several she has had in the past three years. 
    Again, how is this a story?  A racer car driver speeding is as much a surprise as poker player…gasp…gambling!  Or worse, finding a basketball player balling it up in some underground pick up game.  C’mon!
    It would be more of a story if Danica had a clean driving record.

     Wow we are crawling up to the finish of 2008 in the NFL. Game Tonight and a game Saturday......Man love the NFL.

Also Pro Bowl selections where made, with a few new choices and return of some old names. I do wish they hold off on PRO Bowl selection to after the season. Name the players the final week or even during Wild Card weekend. Brett Favre made the list and has to be by name only, since his numbers where not favreariffic.......lol.

      The Indy Colts are playing The Jacksonville Jaguars. Last time these two teams meet they where both looking like imposters to the NFL. Now the Colts are rolling Jaguars are just tring to field a complete team. Jaguars lose Fred Taylor because a thumb injury. Might be the last time the Jaguars will see him suit up unless he takes a pay cut. Matt Jones final got the Suspension.....Greg Jones, Daryl Smith, Jerry Porter, and Tony McDaniel all put on IR in the last week. The Colts Do not have Marvin Harrison. 1st game missed this year after missing 11 last season. Bob Sanders and Joe Addai might play, but if Addai is on your Fantasy team I would not play him because if they get a lead  he might be on side line resting. This game also is getting close to lock a playoff spot for the Colts, they can not afford to lose this one.

The Colts win, but might not be easy. Jack Del Rio knows the Colts and his teams usally play them Tought.
