Born July 22, 1980 in Australia, Scott Dixon is a motor racing driver of New Zealand, who has been IndyCar Champion three times, wining the championships in 2003, 2008, and 2013. He has also won the Indianapolis 500 race in 2008. Since he joined IndyCar he competes for Chip Ganassi Racing. Dixon has won many awards and honors, and the chief ones include the Bruce McLaren Trophy in 2003 and 2008, the Jim Clark Trophy in 1999, 2001, and 2004, being chosen Sportsman of the Year in New Zealand for 2008 and 2013, and appointed Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Dixon started as a race Kart driver when he was seven years old. By the time he was thirteen, he had managed to procure a competition license on special dispensation to race a saloon car. He competed at the Pukekohe Park Raceway, driving the Nissan Sentra, which he crashed. However, Dixon later won every series that he competed. In 1994, he won the Formula Vee championship in New Zealand and later won 13 races out of 14, of the Formula Ford Class 2 Series. In 1997, Dixon started racing in Australia and was third overall in the Formula Holden series. In 1999, Dixon came to the U.S. and joined the Indy Light team of Johansson Motorsports. He won the Chicago oval race, and in 2000, won the championship with seven podium finishes and six wins.
Dixon started his IndyCar Series career from 2003, when his team became part of the Indy Racing League. He began to perform well consistently, and from 2010 to 2012, he won 2-3 races and finished third in the championships. In July 2013, Pocono saw the return of IndyCar racing, and Dixon won the race, and went on to win the Honda Indy Toronto event as well.
